He was a noted purveyor of fine meats and sausages which was distributed in a 4 state area. The grocery building was built first in 1924 and the 6 story hotel followed in 1928. Both buildings were listed on The National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The two buildings have undergone an extensive renovation beginning the fall of 2006. When complete, there will be 5,000 of ground floor commercial space, 30 apartments and 8 loft style units.
